Theology Breakfast

A few weeks ago, my senior pastor invited me to have breakfast with him and some folks he thought I should meet. One of those gentelmen is a leader in Bering Academy, a group of people looking to bring formative theological education and training to the lay community. As such many of our conversations have been about the impact theology has had on our lives and the directions of theology we are currently exploring.

As the weeks have gone on we have had a number of people come through and bring gifts to our conversation. As we talked we realized we wanted to do a better job of inviting people in, so if you are free tomorrow morning (Friday the 29th of October) come down to Cafe Brazil (Westhimer and Dunlavy) and have breakfast with us. We start to gather around 7:45 and the conversation normally picks up around 8am.

Kaleo Houston

The folks over at KaleoHouston have moved into their new digs...last week, I think. They have a video talking about what Kaleo means. What does it mean? Click over and watch the video.

God bless you and your work.

Get Up Off Your Knees

Today's Friday's Frame is actually Friday's Frames. This is a short I made last year called the Great Commission. Even thought that scripture is not in it, I had it in my mind and I was trying to show it in a simple way.

The Amazing Faith of Texas

God is too big to fit inside one religion.

There is a great, new book out exploring the "common ground on higher ground" in this great state of ours. The book shares stories of faith from around Texas. It also includes some great photography of church buildings and folks of all types.

There is a website as well.

In The Wake

Last Friday night, there was an opening reception at Xnihilo Gallery for Beth Murray's, In The Wake. The exhibit continues thru October 15th.

The piece below was in New Orleans when Katrina hit. You can see the waterline across the top third.

This, from her show,

Although growing up in rural Texas influenced my visual vocabulary immensely, having lived in a city whose attitude is far less negative towards age and decay, the idea of beauty being found in things otherwise understood to be broken, decrepit, or derelict has become even more paramount in my work.

Jessica, Jeremy and everyone else (I know Nate helped, too.) with Xnihilo did a fantastic job putting it all together.

Run It Up The "Poll"

I'm conducting a very unscientific poll. I've been thinking about 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus in the New Testament a good bit recently. I've heard the talk about questioning the authorship of those letters and I was wondering what some of ya'll thought about it.

Do you think Paul wrote those letters or did someone write them using his name? (Pseudigraphically) If Paul didn't write the letters, does that mean anything? How does it effect your faith. Has anyone else heard of this?

Feel free to respond anonymously if you want.
